The proposed College will be located in central Gloucester. It will provide teaching programmes leading to national secondary school qualifications and hands-on, project based learning focused on health care and health sciences. The proposed College is being sponsored by a group representing the major NHS employers in the County, the University of Gloucestershire and other backers.

Our vision is to create a UTC in Gloucester which will raise the quality of health services for the people of Gloucestershire, by creating a stronger flow of people with the right skills, knowledge, understanding and attitude to work in the county’s health services. The UTC will create better opportunities for young people in the City and the County to experience an education of the highest quality which engages their interests and enthusiasms by offering a deep, broad and inspiring programme that prepares them well for rewarding, high-skill occupations in the wider health service.

The UTC will provide a distinctive curriculum, specialising in health care and health sciences, which will support young people to develop the specific skills required to pursue successful careers in health, science and care. The curriculum will offer an integrated academic and technical education for young people. The core focus of the curriculum will be science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects, owing to the importance of these subjects to health, science and care economies.

Alongside the academic education, students will engage in a wide range of work-based projects and placements in real work contexts, not normally offered in mainstream educational provision. These projects will provide real life learning experiences for young people and support the development of the technical and personal skills and positive attitudes for the workplace. The UTC will work with its partners to develop these integrated work related projects.

Gloucestershire UTC is currently preparing an application to the Department for Education to receive approval to develop a UTC in Gloucestershire. This website provides links to contact, surveys and information relevant during the application phase.
